- Editing after submission, and refunds, will not be possible. All references in this T&C to The Letter Review (TLR) are inclusive of any employees of TLR. At the time of submission copyright must reside solely with the Entrant, the work must be entirely original (not based on other works) except where acknowledged otherwise, and the Entrant must either be the sole author, or the sole author’s agent. Winning authors must agree to these T&C in writing once the judging has concluded. Entrant warrants that publication by TLR will not be unlawful, or infringe upon any personal rights, or give rise to any claim by any third party including without limitation claims in defamation, privacy, copyright, or trademark. The Entrant agrees to indemnify and hold harmless TLR for any rights violations, or damage, including copyright, resulting from submission or publication. Communications between the Entrant and TLR are private, confidential, and intended for the recipient only. Entrants give consent to receive email communications from TLR. Once winning Entrants have been informed of their result and agree to these T&C in writing, Entrants grant TLR exclusive first world serial (TLR will be the first to publish the Entry), online, and archival publication rights to their winning entry including the perpetual right to publish and reproduce winning entries in TLR’s media, including any images, interviews, and comments submitted, along with the winning Entrant’s name and biography. Entrants retain ownership of their work and after five months may publish their work elsewhere. Entrants grant TLR the perpetual right to publish the names and biographies of Shortlisted & Longlisted Entrants. TLR will seek Entrants’ permission before submitting entry to third party anthologies e.g. The Pushcart Prize. If any of T&Cs are breached, including unprofessional behavior, TLR reserves the right not to publish, and to revoke the Prize including money. TLR reserves the right to not publish, or to cease publishing, any writing. TLR reserves the right to remove references to any entrant from our media. TLR is not resourced to issue personalized invoices for entry fees. If selected as a winner Entrants grant TLR the right to publish the piece as submitted. Before publication, TLR reserves the right, without altering substantive content, to make minor edits to the spelling, tense, grammar, and syntax of winning entries as required. TLR reserves the right to extend the deadline of a submission opportunity. TLR reserves the right to refuse service. Prize money includes all publication fees (online, anthology etc.). Entrants must invoice TLR and collect payment within three months of request of invoice, or the Prize money is forfeit. The special category ‘The Literary Award’ is paid at our standard publication rate of $50. Entrants must respond to emails, and supply requested information, within 72 hours. In the unlikely event that an element of the Prize is canceled, postponed or not available, that element of the Prize will be considered forfeit (this has never occurred). These T&Cs supersede all previous agreements, written or verbal.
- Translations: All entries must be primarily written in English with short passages in other languages permissible. Entrants may submit translations of their own writing, but not translations of the writing of others. Translations are permitted as long as both the translation and the original are not previously published (previous publication on personal media is acceptable): AI may be used to assist in direct translations. If the submission is a translation, the original author (or the original author’s agent) must be the one to submit the work, must own the copyright to the original work and the translation, must acknowledge the translator in the cover letter, and must have the ability to grant TLR the publication rights outlined in this T&C.
- Please acknowledge TLR if you publish a winning work elsewhere. TLR will always seek Entrant’s permission before submitting an entry to the Pushcart Prize, or other anthologies such as the Best of the Net.
